I like to post interesting pics from time to time. I just got back from a yard, and this was taken from one of the frames I pulled up. Can you see anything unique for this time of the year?

It's actually a sad situation also. The hive has two frames of bees, DWV, and will be dead soon. It's a remote yard and this was the first time I looked at them in a couple months. But it's the only one that was not strong.

2 queens ha and the hive is still dieing? what you going to do with them big ole pretty queens, I know you probably cull by nature like me but that is sad with 2 queens

I find two queen hives at about a 10% rate. It's more common than you think. And probably is a reason for failure in introducing queens for some beekeepers.

Usually they will choose one and cast the extra off in a fall swarm, although some do go through winter with two queens. Most two queen colonies are mother/daughter. Two daughter queen colonies are rare.

It's one of the pitfalls in using strong full size hives for queen rearing. You find the first queen and remove, then put a graft in. And nothing works out because of the second queen. It's happened to me a number of times.

Okay, someone help out a newbie and circle the queens! I couldn't find mine a couple of weeks ago and the one I purchased died.

1st one is about 1 1/2 inches left of center. 2nd one is about 1 1/2 inches right and down a bit from center. longer body. shorter wings. the one on the left is a bit easier to spot, but once you see her, you'll easily see the other.

There is a bee dead center of the picture that I thought was the queen before I even read the post. I did see the one on the right.

DVW...third bee to the right of the left queen. And the bee touching the butt of the queen on the right. Both are runt bees much smaller than the others. It's not a good picture to show DWV. But there were several running around.

dont see any K wings, that is cause but T-mites, all I see is DWV.

I find the queens always pretty easy to see. I look for that BIG black shiny thorax. Older workers bees quite often have that shiny thorax, but I always see my queens with the thorax's that really stand out because of the size and shinyness. Workers' look different. Beautiful and wonderful day and life. Cindi
