separating propolis
« on: March 12, 2012, 09:30:11 am »
Yesterday I started cleaning up some frames and boxes. That process put quite a mixture of stuff in my trash bucket. So, is there a process to separate the propolis from the bits of wax, bits of wood, and bits of trash?

Some people dissolve it in alcohol an filter it.

Some just pick through it and remove the trash.

Some people just sweep it up with the rest of the dirt under the work table and toss it.    :-D

Freeze it,  smash it up while it's still frozen then put it into a bowl of water and swirl it around. This will let  the debris float to the top. You may have to do this a few times. I also after doing this, filter it in a solar wax melter.

Thanks all for the replies. I had searched previously and had not found good answers. My daughter is a massage therapist and has asked me for propolis. I guess it has therapeutic value. I have read of tinctures made with grain alcohol. I just dislike wasting a natural product.
