First Swarm removal of the Season
« on: April 06, 2013, 12:46:08 am »
Got a call about 2PM to remove a swarm of bees.
I got there and the folks were scared to death.
The swarm was in a fence row that was covered with honeysuckle vines.
I set up the hive and shook the fence, the bees fell right into the bucket.
I put a ramp on the front of the hive with a white cloth on it.
I dumped the bees on the ramp and they marched right up into the hive like it was home.
Went back at sunset and now have the hive in my bee yard at the house.
It took about 5 minutes to get setup and put the bees in the hive.
I guess next time I ought to wear a veil and gloves.
Folks were taking bets the bees would eat me up.
Anyhow got my 1st swarm of the season.

Congratulations on an easy capture. I have never seen a swarm in my area but I'm putting out a few traps anyways.

Congrats on the catch. We are just getting to the busy time hear. I had 4 calls today. did one cutout this morning with the local news crew. I will post a link as soon as they post it. then got a call from 911 about bees everywhere at a house. partner went to that one found a swarm locked on the trunk of a oak tree 15 feet up. he will go back sunday. he also found a 10 year old hive behind the shed at the house where the swarm came from. he's going to do a cutout this week. went to another call and found bees in the side of a apartment. setting that up for next sat. then got home and put the bees in the yard from the cutout and got another call from 911 about another swarm across town got there at 730 found a 2.5 pound swarm in a bush. shook them into a nuc and marched the rest in got home after dark. drooped that one off at my second yard. boy am I tired.

your fun has only begun to start. :tumbleweed:
