This is the hive I ordered from Dadant.
Hopefully it's the first of many!

I kind of wish it had a flat top, but I can eventually change that.

It comes completely assembled with 8 frame copper garden cover, inner cover, two 9-5/8 inch depth 8 frame brood boxes, 16 grooved top bar frames with plasticell foundation, solid bottom board and cedar hive stand.
I also ordered the screened bottom to add to this hive.
I'm so anxious for it to arrive! :)

Telescoping tops are readily available any time. If the bees are going to be near the garden, the copper top is quite attractive. No one has ever posted the copper tops after they have weathered and achieved their sheen. Should be rustic looking indeed. :)

I'll post an image after the top weathers and see what you all think.
I was just thinking that a flat roof would be easier to weigh down with a brick or rock.

No need for a brick.   That top ain't going anywhere.   (unless someone takes it to the scrap yard for $$)

I'm glad to hear that! Nah, nobody's gonna see it so I doubt it'll get stolen.
I'm putting it towards the back of the property, We're the only ones that go back there.
Unless my freakshow, hillbilly neighbors go back there without me being aware of it. :-x

I got one coming like that too for my garden.  It is my first hive and my mother's day present!  Very excited.  They are so pretty!

Congrats!

Can't go wrong with copper for sure. If you can afford it.
