« on: December 09, 2009, 11:03:00 pm »
I grow ediable mushrooms in the winter to keep me busy. Oysters, shittake, lions mane, any many others. The spent substract make for great compost. Also use mushroom mycelium in my organic gardens with great results the plants and MYC work in away they help each other.

I grow mushrooms too, I like the log medium the best as you get bigger harvests than those indoor kits.
I put in a morel mushroom patch outside in a corner of my yard.
We have a couple of threads going on this somewhere here.
I grow shitake, maitkake, brown, blue and pearl oysters, morels, lions's mane etc.
Fun stuff to grow.

How are you growing mushrooms. I.E. in a basement or some dark room I was wondering what conditions you need to get started.. Looking to learn the basics and decide if it fits in with us. Thanks for any info John

Some people use the indoor mushroom kits that you get a couple of flushes out of them but I grow mine outside.
I use dowels and put them in holes that I have drilled into logs, then I leave them outside, partial shade is good.
I also have a morel patch that grows on the side of my house.
Here is a couple of places to check out.

I have to get some more posts before I post some pics of inside grows. Growing mushrooms has a learning curve but once you have the basics down it's quite easy. Outside growing is alittle easier and that would be a good place to start.

I have never grown mushrooms before. I'm building a root cellar and am thinking of leaving a section for growing. Any tips on where I should start as far as my research goes?? I'm not sure which kind I would want, ut I like keeping things as simple as possible. Is there a helpful forum on mushrooms such as this one??
Thanks - Gabe

I think the link in the last post is for a mushroom growing forum.
I grow all of mine outside so I don't know about inside but I know it can be done.
They make alot of kits for indoor growing but they do not produce as much as the ones you grow outside.
