Here's an interesting article comparing several methods of disinfecting AFB. The upshot is that complete heat treatment is better than anything, even scorching. you science types will enjoy. If only I could get a big enough oven.

they probally would still not hold very many but would be a start.

I'd go for the "boiling in paraffin" method myself.  It will preserve and it will disinfect.

That's a lot of parrafin, but probably less expensive than one of those whopper ovens PDMattox posted.
