We'll be doing this four times this weekend!  It looks like it was cool out, is that the case?  50% chance of rain and highs in the 40's for Saturday....same as last year.

Congratulations. Did you keep the bees in One deep? Otherwise they have to heat up the upper deep which is hard for them. Good luck!

I like your hive stand idea!  That's pretty slick.  I just have one hive and got a couple cinder blocks to set it on.  But I like the idea of running a few boards threw them like that.  Hmm...  looks like I'm gunna head back to Home Depot and get some more blocks!  lol.  Verry cool though!  No vale?  Man, I must be a wuss.  That's pretty hard core dude!

You should have read Beemaster's package installation part of the beekeeping course.
http://www.beemaster.com/inst2004.html

It's easier on both you and the bees to open up the side of the cage instead of trying to bang/bounce/roll them out the feeder hole.

Congradulations on your bees. Now your carnivorous plants have something to eat.

My bee mentor and neighbor told me to put it like that helps with sunks apparently. I put 1 inch risers on the back so theirs a bit of a tip, I have 4 pound packages so theirs a few more workers to heat up the hive, unfortunately I hope to have a super set up to put on the hive soon that way they have less to heat up. hopefully the weather picks up.

Sean Kelly, it was 35*f only 1-2 attempted to fly. Unfortunetaly to death.. I tried to get as many that didnt make it in the hive into the hive, but their was a good few that didn't make it.  :'(

Thanks for the comments! Ill try to get a fire wire chord to upload video with!

Oh and just for reference the house is in the last photo, you can see it, Its ALL the way back their, and my moms bf is afraid of getting swarmed by bee's. ALSO he thought we got 1 4pound package.

I think that they grow alfalfa in the field, but its the wrong kind? Apparently their are two kinds, but like one is easier for the bee's to get into. Hopefully the farmer who does it will reseed with the right kind next year after I have a few words with him, (heck maybe this year even?)

Hi Nepenthes,

Last year when I first got my bees, I had the hive set up with two deeps from the beginning.  While it's not cold here (as mentioned by KONASDAD, the problem that resulted from my doing it with two boxes is that the bees built up the center, ignoring the frames on the side.  I did take the top box off before they got too far into it, but FWIW, thought I'd pass that on to you.

The top one is the top feeder. They have only the bottom deep for now.

Dood, streaming video!  You're full of all kinds of cool ideas.  Really though, I'm so copying your hive stand... like this weekend.  Pretty slick man.
Congrats again!  Can't wait to see what happens next!!!

I'm heading to Lowes this morning to get the materials to make my stand. I have been trying to figure out how I wanted to set up the hives and once I saw your pictures my problem was solved!

Cody, looking at your pictures.  YOu really did a nice job of setting things up for your bees, you should be proud, and look at the members that want to copy your method!!!!  You are a leader!!!!
