Title: Need Help in Identifying What is in Picture-Multiple Larvae or Pollen???
Post by: jataylor on May 26, 2012, 05:46:43 pm
Opened my hive today after two weeks of letting the girls do their thing.  Queen has been very productive and lots of capped and uncapped brood.  Plenty of honey and pollen.  Didn't see this until I downloaded the picture as I had my veil on and wasn't sure what I was looking at.  Please help me identify what I have in the cells that look like multiple larvae.
Thanks.

Yes, agree that the bottom two capped rows are capped drone.  I'm asking about the uncapped cells that look like they have two little fluff balls in them.

If you are seeing what I think you are looking at, it is an optical illusion.  It's light shining through the back, and the two little balls are the cells on the other side, and they are separated by the cell wall that is on the opposing side.  Is it foundationless?

Zoom in on the pic and you can see it is wired foundation.   The hive tool is pointing at drone brood.   There are 2 cells in the whole pic that may have pollen but the rest of the cells are empty or with capped drone brood.
