Title: Giant bee shed
Post by: Horns Pure Honey on December 15, 2004, 08:14:44 pm
I have a shed that I planeed to keep the bees under its lean too by are old mine. I was wandering if I could keep many hives in this shed all year long? The shed is 50x75 and could hold many evenly spaced hives. It has a 2 foot opening down the south side at the top that vents ito the lean too and a 8x12 door to the lean too. The front doors are always open for ventalation but could close them for heat in the winter and close up the side door. The front door is on the east side so no rain enters. This way if they really wanted to go out the could go up through the gap to the lean too. Does this sound ok to all of you? thanks, bye

The small door faces the south, and the larg doors face the east. The north and west are full wall with no doors or vent gaps. bye

You want your hives to be getting as early morning sun as possible.
That is th only prob I would see

I was worried about that. I think I will move them in in the winter.

I agree with Rog, if they are inside a shed, the morning sun will not have a chance to "wake them up" and they can miss some necter flow which dries up in the noontime sun. This early morning necter, created by the morning dew may be the only thing out there at certain times of dearth.

Those where my thoughts after a chat with beemaster. I think they will be in the sheltered woods all year till winter draws near and the come close to drawing off for the year, then I will move them to there perfect bee habbitat in the large shed. bye
