They are offering free shipping East of the Mississippi River for orders placed between December 1st and December 19th.

You must mention the code "SANTA ABJ"

Have a nice Thanksgiving...

Did a search and found this:

"YUP! FREE shipping! From December 1 to December 19 only. Also,.."Unfortunately back ordered items, glass containers, truck shipments, and orders west of the Mississippi River are EXCLUDED'. This from the inner back page of the December 2008 American Bee Journal."

There go my hive boxes!  :'(  Better call first to be sure of what is actually FREE.

Hive bodies and supers usually ship by normal shipping (unless you are buying 100s or 1000s maybe).    Things like extractors, storage tanks, etc. that are too big dimensionally ship by freight.

I am thinking it must be $50.00 or more for the components for two hives and all the extras, smoker, tools, etc.  Am I close?

I just checked their website and shipping to me in So. FL is listed at only-

$1.50 for a Complete Standard Hive
$3.50 for a Complete Medium Hive

Of course -I want lots more stuff but that seems incredibly cheap shipping to me.  We'll see what the savings is once I tally my list.  Any savings is more money to put into supers or other bee stuff.

That's got to be an error.  The cheapest shipping for 45lbs on the chart in the catalog is $19.58.    You can't even get the flat rate shipping boxes for $3.50 :?

That was my first thought- way too cheap!  :-\  When is anything shipped for $1.50??  So I could rack up $50.00 in free shipping pretty easily.  :-D

I just ordered  three med size supers from them and the shipping was $12.53.
The last time I ordered a hive the shipping was more than $40.00
Brushy Mountain has a shipping estimator button on their site, just put the items you want in the cart and then hit the estimate button.

We've had some big orders in the past. I couldn't find anyone at the time that could touch $.65 a frame delivered. With prices like that it really makes you want to build up your equipment reserves. :-D

Also on Dec. 1 only order over $50 east of miss is free shipping and use promo code PCCM and get a free sample pack of honey sticks. That is 10 each of 8 flavors in the sample pack. But it is only good for online orders on Monday Dec. 1 and they also have some special sales for Monday only for online orders too.

I meant to say that when I placed my order today I did not need any code for the free shipping, when I tried to put in the  SANTA ABJ code it refused it as invalid.
So I put in the PCCM code for the free honey sticks and it accepted that, I continued on with the order to see what would happen with the shipping without the code but it automatically puts in the free shipping, no code is needed.
Happy shopping, I saved alot on shipping today!  :)

Yes it is true,  made my order today with code PCCM.

They have been doing free shipping in Dec for a few years now.  I try to order those heavy items then ;)

Post by: Natalie on December 01, 2008, 04:45:26 pm
No its true,it is not a scam, thats what I said in my post.
What I am stating is that you do NOT need a code for the free shipping though.
Someone posted a code for free shipping but the computer doesn't accept it because you do not need it.
I was letting people know that so they don't get stressed out when they put the code in and it gets kicked back as invalid.
The shipping is free without a code.
The Only thing you need a code for is if you want the free honey sticks they are offering today if you spend over fifty dollars.
That code PCCM.
I used it and got the free honey sticks.
I bought over $200.00 worth of stuff today and that last time I did that the shipping was around $60.00 or I think even more due to the weight.
I have a real problem paying for so much in shipping.
So I had free shipping on a hive and a bunch of supers and an order of free honeysticks.
I suggest you order all of the heaviest stuff you need now while the shipping is free.

Post by: Robo on December 01, 2008, 04:51:38 pm
Is code PCCM valid after 12/1?  Or is it only good for today as posted earlier?   If so,  then you will need code SANTA BC or SANTA ABJ for free shipping after today, or if you spend less than $50.

Previous years I just put the free shipping code in the comments box and they honored it.
Title: Re: Brushy Mt. Free Shipping from Dec 1 to Dec 19 use code "SANTA ABJ"
Post by: Natalie on December 01, 2008, 05:31:34 pm
That is exactly it. For today the PCCM is the code you need to use.
After today the woman I spoked to on the phone said that you can either try to use one of the two codes that she said was listed in the back of the bee culture or american bee journal magazine, if the computer doesn't accept it in the code section, then leave it in the comment section and they will manually remove it when they process your order.
Then when you recieve you confirmation e-mail with your order summary you may be asked to confirm it.
That is what the woman at the company told me today.
I didn't have to do anything other than use the pccm code at the top of the order page and it took the shipping off right then and added the honey sticks.

Just sign up fro their monthly e-mail newsletter and every month or so they have a special deal for subscribers. Either last month or the month I got the free hat with the order I placed. Not something I use every month but it does come in handy every now and then. And yes, the pccm code is just for today.

Placed an order this morning and just mentioned in comments section the SANTA BC code.  Even though the order shows shipping charges, Brushy will credit the cost when it ships.  Same as last year.

That's a great deal if you live a good distance away and need a bunch of heavy stuff!

Happy Holidays!

Last year I got a 4 frame extractor with free shipping from Brushy Mountain. Yesterday I ordered $600 worth of mostly woodenware and put in the Santa ABJ in shipping instruction box then called and confirmed that I got free shipping by putting it in the Shipping instruction box, not the coupon box.
This is a huge savings. It is not cheaper to build except that shipping is norm a killer.
Now I get to just assemble and not just break even on wood prices and free labor to scratch build mediums and deeps.

Its so true, I really never like to shop for anything in December because I am focused more on all the holiday stuff, but this is way too good to pass up.
I am going to need this stuff anyway so I might as well jump in now anyway and save on the shipping.
I ended up doing more than one order this week, after giving it more thought about how heavy some more of the items I wanted would cost me in shipping later.
Not that I could afford to buy all the things I will eventually need, but this squared me away on alot.
I ended up saving over $100.00 on shipping already. That is huge.
This is when people who want to order extractors and things like that should go for it, the only problem, like I said is the timing with the holidays.
I had 4 of my childrens birthdays in the past two weeks and then with Christmas coming I was hesitant to spend money on myself.
But what the heck, I would hate myself later when I still end up having to buy the same items and then I am paying shipping on them.

I'm pretty sure anything that ships freight (extractors, for example) don't get the free shipping.  Too bad, the freight on ours was $216!!

I just received e-mail confirm of shipping. I feel a little guilty. They shipped me over
250lbs of stuff with free shipping.
I received free shipping last year on a 4 frame extractor. I only mention
this in case someone thought that the smaller extractors were too large
for normal delivery. Looks like I will be assembling and painting a lot of supers
and assembling  a couple hundred frames on my 2 week Christmas vacation from work.
Better now than July or Aug in Florida heat  :)  Did I mention it is still in the 70s here :)
and there are still lots of bees flying.

I ended up putting in a second order last week and have saved over $150.00 in shipping already.

Although we do love the drive up there - we've been there twice now.  And you never know who'll you'll meet in the parking lot!

We met Kim Flottum down there - can't put all three of us in one picture because someone had to hold the camera!

Jennifer Berry was there buying 100 (!!) hives - it was a tossup whether or not the trailer could take the load, but it did!  She was there with her dog, I can't remember what his name was:

We spent quite a bit of time talking to Shane Gebauer about northern beekeeping - he had moved down to NC to work at Brushy after managing Betterbee in NY, he knew what cold weather beekeeping was like!

If we go back down south again we'll no doubt make the trip up the mountain again!

Ordered on Monday from Brushy and it was delivered on Thursday. Awesome. Don't know where I'm going to hide all these boxes from my wife. :)

Its funny you say that, I feel the same about my husband seeing the boxes.
I have a joke going with my UPS guy, I swear that guy only shows up when my husband is home!
My husband could be gone all day and then the minute he comes home my delivery guy shows up with 8 boxes.
Plus, how do you hide all those big boxes?
Its a good thing my hubby is okay with all this, probably only because he likes the beekeeping idea too and he knows that I am usually not much of a spender when it comes to myself , that and he can't afford to divorce me. ;)

Besides the free shipping they are extremely nice people to deal with. After we had already placed an order I called there this morning and asked them if I could add on to it. She stopped the order from being shipped and added the new items. Better than other vendors I've dealt with.

I just wanted to say that the shipping estimator for shipping on the Brushy Mountains site is way off.
I ordered something a while back online from them and the shipping was automatically figured in and I paid for the order.
I got a call a couple of days later from a representative at Brushy telling me that my shipping would actually be $30.00 more than they charged me for and I would have to cough up some more bucks.
She then went on to explain that the estimator feature is inaccurate and they are aware of that and it should be fixed shortly.
So this past week when I ordered during the free shipping I clicked on the estimator button to see how much shipping would have been and it said it was  only $14.00 for 230lbs of equipment.
A few days later I made another order and the shipping came up at $3.30 for another 200lbs of equipment.
So it is obviously still way off, even for an estimate(which I realize may be a ballpark figure) of the actual shipping its not even close.
So just to be aware of that.
Keith, what I assume happened is they calculated your shipping which is way off at $1.50 and then plan to remove it when they do the actual order, they do that manually when the order is being processed.
They miscalculated your shipping to begin with, but its going to be removed anyway.

I bought $50 worth of shipping items the estimator says and it has been taken off my order. I bought a fumeboard, bee-go, a 9 frame spacer tool, 600 micron filter and a 200 micron filter, hive staples, and 364 1 lb. jars and caps. I think the jars would be more than $50 by themselves, but who cares its FREE!!

I will take a picture of all the boxes when they arrive.

Oh my gosh! I have 12 huge boxes of stuff from Brushy and I don't even know what to do with it all.
Thats the only problem with buying it this time of year, you can't use it and stick it outside for months.
When the ups guy left he said, keep ordering. He had brought stuff the other day too.
I yelled at him today though and told him he knows he is only suppose to bring all these packages when my husband isn't home to see them.

I am wondering if anyone else here has had any problems with the woodenware they get from them.
I have had several supers come with chunks of wood missing out of the top of the supers where its rabbited, and also big scrapes on the tops of the supers, the wood is splintered in spots.
I will have to do some extra heavy duty sanding on those ones to get everything smooth.
I talked to someone in customer service because this is the second time this has happened to me, a couple of dings you expect but this is beyond that and not what they should even send out to people.
I was really nice about it and they said someone would call me back so I'll see what they say about it.

It rained all day here so I figured I would do something productive and start painting some of my stuff.
I got a complete hive done, all the components and 7 extra supers.
That was a good chunk of stuff that needs to be painted so I am happy with that.

What grade did you order? It sounds of it they sent you budget (factory 2nds).  There are essentially 3 grades of boxes, The highest grade goes my different names depending on the supplier, the middle grade is usually called commercial, and the rejects are called budget.  The prices for the wood quality are reflected by the prices. If you didn't specify a qualifty or price range (same thing) the default is almost always commercial.  If you ordered commercial and got budget you have a legitamate complaint.  Check you invoice.

We've ordered 70 something medium supers from them and have only had 1 or 2 that were beyond rough. A small portion of them had knots but all were usable and fine on the inside. I'm sure Brushy Mt. will make thing right with you Natalie. You might have to take a few pictures to show them the irregularities that are concerning you. Let us know how things turn out.

I ordered the cypress. The did have 3 others in different grades of pine like you said on their website. I went with the cypress though.
I almost think there is some kind of dysfunction in the equipment they are using to mill the wood or the person operating it.
Its like the end pieces that are nailed into eachother at the corners are shredded.
I am not saying all of them came like this, in the last two weeks it has been like 6 or out of 14.
I don't mind sanding out imperfections in the wood, but some of these end pieces would have to be sanded pretty deep to get rid of the splintering wood and then would leave a decent size gap in between that one and the super above it.
I would have to sand those pieces down too or when I scrape wax or whatever off the edges those splinters of wood would scrape right up with it.
I know the woodenware will get beat on and worn over the years, I just don't want to have to start right out like that from the beginning.
The other equipment was fine and I let them know that I just wanted them to be aware that this is the second time its happend.I think they are good people to work with and I didn't want to be critical about it so I just explained it and asked if there was a mechanical issue or just my dumb luck lately.
I thought cypress was suppose to be a decent wood, but maybe I will switch over to another kind next time I order. Not sure. I guess I will see what they say.
I think you are right Greg, they seem decent. I really don't expect anything from them, I wanted to let them know since I have an upcoming order and I don't want anymore unreasonably dinged up supers.

I doubt it is the type of wood you can pretty much make any wood look good.
I use cypress  from Rossman and do not have issues w/ quality. I didn't realize Brushy even offered cypress

Well my packages arrived today and here is what i got:
(http://img519.imageshack.us/img519/444/dsc00846rg7.jpg) (http://img519.imageshack.us/my.php?image=dsc00846rg7.jpg)

The total cost was around $250 and shipping was $50 so the total after taking shpping off is about $200.
The bottom box has 364 Plastic jars and the top has 364 lids, a fumepad, bee-go, 9 frame spacer tool, 1lb. hive staples, 600 micron filter and a 200 micron filter.

What a great savings and i hope that they can be able to keep on doing this for years to come.

Did you all get your postcard from Brushy Mountain yet? They sent out a postcard with a coupon code of FHT to redeem a free hive tool with your next order.
Its good for the entire 2009 calendar year.
Always good to have an extra.

You probably will, but it doesn't matter you don't need the actual postcard, just the FHT code.
I am sure they will end up posting it somewhere else again anyway and its probably just like the shipping promo, anyone that spends money there gets a free tool.
I can tell you this promo has go to be alot cheaper for them than the shipping promo, they must have spent thousands on that one.
Its a good way for them to get people to their site though and increase their customer base since I bet alot of people who have just tried their company for the first time for the shipping promo will go back again.
FHT code= free hive tool throughout 2009.

We've gone back every year since we found out about their offer.  Brushy Mt. also gives free shipping to our bee school students and every year I give a short talk explaining the importance of buying everything you need up front and saving money when you can in beekeeping. The shipping cost can be a killer if you buy your equipment over many different orders.
