Pollen Traps
« on: May 08, 2011, 10:33:26 pm »
Does anyone on here use pollen traps? I bought the front porch pollen trap from Brushy Mountain. I give the bees 3 days to get use to the actual trap before putting on the tray and brush pieces. I guess it will also take a few days for them to figure out how to get in and out of the hive efficiently. A large amount of bees are now hanging from the screened bottom board, but there is pollen in the trap so I know some are getting through. For those of you who use them:

How long do you leave them on the hive?

Should they be removed every other week or so?

Do they interfere with brood and honey production? I have read that they do not interfere!

Any other thoughts on trapping pollen. This is my first go around with it. I am hoping to trap some this spring and fall to use in my pollen patties next Jan/Feb.
