Chalkbrood
« on: June 08, 2014, 01:06:11 pm »
I know there have been more thanks several posts about this, but I didn't find one that answered my question. I have a  new Top Bar hive. It was established in the beginning of April. We purchased a package of bees and a queen from a local Beekeeping store here in Oakand, CA. Everything went smoothly for about 6 weeks. We began noticing chalk brood mummies deposited on the hive landing around May 17. Some mornings there are 3-4, some 8-12, and some there are none.

We increased ventilation about two weeks ago.  My bee partner follows the 'non-intrusive' practices of Corwin Bell from backyard hive.com in Colorado, so we haven't inspected the brood comb. How long should it take for this to run it's course?

Any comments would be appreciated.

Welcome Thomassen! you've landed at a great website.
