Too many drones!

So after discovering I was queenless in two hives I really checked through my two strong hives. I observed a large amount of drones running around on the top of the inner cover, more than I have ever seen. Is this bad? Both hives have a large amount of wroker brood through out the two deep hive bodies and one hive has two deeps and one medium with brood.

are there queen cells or emerged virgins in the hive?  drones drift quite readily, and tend to congregate in hives that are looking to mate queens.

About 20% Drones this time of year would be normal. You got more  :?

I did not see any queen cells in the hive. I guess if its 20% then that might be right. Maybe that was the hang out area for the day.

The percent changes throughout the year.  You're at the peak right now, which is usually about 20%.
