Pollen patty recipe???? help!
« on: June 08, 2009, 08:25:29 pm »
Hey guys...
For the first time, I am thinking about supplementing a couple of weaker hives with pollen subsitute patties.  I have the following recipe for the dry items:

3 parts (by weight) Soy Flour (expeller-processed soybean flour)
1 part (by weight) Brewers Yeast
1 part (by weight) Nonfat Dry Milk (Not instant milk)

Question:  What the heck is Nonfat Dry Milk that is NOT instant milk?  That one has baffled the local health food store.  Any suggestions for a substitute?

As far as I know, it's the same thing. Where did you get the recipe? It's  the recipe I have, but mine calls for "dry skim milk" which is the same as nonfat dry milk, which is the same as "instant" milk.

There's another dry milk product that they may be referring to which is a whole milk dry powder called "NIDO"- this one has the fat content of 4% fat milk. Maybe that's the one they are specifying should not be used. :?

How economical is it to make that...as compared to the pollen patties that you can buy?  I'm always trying to save a buck...but sometimes putting together the ingredients doesn't pencil out.
