Moved here 10 years ago, building a retirement homestead.  Have a hollow on our property so we call it The Honey Hollow Homestead.

Welcome to the forum. Please think about changing your profile location to include your town and state it will help us help you. Does the Hollow ( or Holler as we pronounce it up here) get good air flow and low moisture?   -Mike

:-D Hello neighbor. Welcome to the forum and good luck with your bees.
Quite difficult matters can be explained even to a slow-witted man, if only he has not already adopted a wrong opinion about them; but the simplest things cannot be made clear even to a very intelligent man if he is firmly persuaded that he already knows, and knows indubitably, the truth of the matter under consideration. -Leo Tolstoy

Hello, Medic, I'm from Hampton, Tn myself.  I'm new to beekeeping. I've procured my hives, location, and most of my equipment.  I'll order my bees this winter.

When I lived in TN, the only place in the whole state that was cool enough for my blue blood in the summer was Mountain City!  Been up there a number of times.

Good luck with the bees.

I’ve you’ve lived in NY all your life, you might prefer NE TN (Bristol, Mountain City), or SW VA.  Kind of mountainy up there and lots of outdoor things to do.  It gets REALLY hot and humid in the rest of TN from about June to September.  However if you like the warmth and a lot of sunshine, Memphis is the warmest place in the state.

What exactly is a “homestead property” these days?  Historically I thought “homesteads” were tracks of land the feds would give title to if a settler improved said land.  Didn’t think they existed anymore.  I have the impression you’re looking for a descent sized track of rural land/farm land?  If you get outside the big cities, there is plenty of undeveloped land; at least from what I saw!  It wasn’t too built up in the NE corner of TN IMO.  Nashville, Memphis, and even Knoxville seemed a little busier than I like.  I only like to hear crickets when I call it a day :)
