Requeening with a Ruskie Question
« on: July 30, 2010, 05:21:08 pm »
I understand from searching around on here that introducing a Russian queen to an Italian hive may be a little more complicated but heres what I'm not understanding. After making the hive queenless and placing the new Russian queen cage in, am I supposed to tear into this hive every day prior to her release to make sure that no queen cells are being built ? It seems that the constant intrusion would only inhibit a peaceful introduction and not help it at all. What am I missing?

You really only have to check for queen cells once...I do it 10 days after removing the queen. You could check as soon as day 6 if you've already gotten your new queen. By day 6 there will be no more viable larvae for them to make a queen from, but be observant, they may just try to sneak an older larva in on you.

"In the first place, we should insist that if the immigrant who comes here in good faith becomes an American and assimilates himself to us, he shall be treated on an exact equality with everyone else, for it is an outrage to discriminate against any such man because of creed, or birthplace, or origin. But this is predicated upon the person's becoming in every facet an American, and nothing but an American...There can be no divided allegiance here. Any man who says he is an American, but something else also, isn't an American at all. We have room for but one flag, the American flag...We have room for but one language here, and that is the English language...And we have room for but one sole loyalty and that is a loyalty to the American people."
