:D Now the frame is ready for the new wax but we will put the new wax the day before we put the frame in to the hive. (I will post picture whis the new wax when i will put it in to the hive) :idea:

Post by: Anonymous on February 27, 2005, 10:15:07 am: Wow six (6) cross wires, I have enough keeping calm when doing four (4) which many beekeepers here use. I prefer just two (2) wires myself. Saves my sanity :lol: :lol: Not that I've been acused of being sane in any shape or form.

:?: Why do you have to scorch (burn softly) your frames? Couldn't you just dip them in a hot bath with lye or bleach?

Post by: icra on February 27, 2005, 11:07:44 am: Here some beekeepers burn them softly and some of theme dip them in a hot bath. I prefer not to wet the frame wood (the wood will have a longer life).

There was much talk at our last bee club meeting of dipping the hives in boiling parfin and not painting them. seems like the bees wax on the frames would be much the same thing?

But if the frame was from a hive with problemes (sick) ? The fire will kill all the bacterias.

My bee inspector says personally, he'd rather have AFB than EFB if you were unfortunate to have either. EFB gets between colonies, wheras AFB tends to stay in a single colony, unless you've been moving comb about etc. Hence he finds it easier to control.

I was quite surprised.

What mean "lye"? And could you explain me what kind of bleach are you using? (Is it chemical? Or what constitution it have?)

Post by: Anonymous on March 04, 2005, 09:38:39 am: :) Lye is made by leaching water thru wood ashes. A strong skin eatting soulation if one is not very carefull in its use.
Bleach is chemicals mixed to make a soulation not as strong as Lye but still strong enough to cause burns on senstive skin if one is not careful.
Here in the US it is now mixed (milder ratios) in with clearners for the home and for laundary. You don't have to buy the straight bottled stuff and get the ratio correct for the job you want to do.

Hmm this substance chemical, and i dont use chemical substance on my hives parts!

I don't use it myself either.
