How much pollen is enough for winter
« on: October 05, 2007, 07:34:28 pm »
I was wondering how much pollen is enough for the bees for the winter. Do I look for a certain number of frames filled up all the way? Someone mentioned a number previously, but not clear on this.

I know how to calculate the honey, but never thought about how much pollen they would need.

They are still bringing in pollen here as we have had some rain mixed in with warm sunny days.

Thanks
Annette

Hi Annette
I'm sure they have enough.I have never worried about pollen myself except in the spring. If they need pollen I go to L A honey and by a pount for 14 dollars mix with some honey and put it on a piece of paper and put it on the frames. How big is your hive?

I have 2 hives. One is 3 mediums, the other right now is 4 mediums, but will soon be 3 mediums soon as I remove the top super on that one.

They look strong and healthy. Nice plump bees walking around on the frames.

Thanks for the help
