Ok...goodbye winter!
« on: December 21, 2010, 03:29:30 pm »
With the passing of the winter solstice yesterday, I welcome the lengthening days once again. May the days become bright, the global warming be great, and my hive get a break from this three week period of freezing temps. They need a break!  8-)

All kidding aside.....this extended cold period has to end at some point.  ;)

I think there's three more days before the days start getting longer, today being the shortest.

On a high note we hit 26F today, cloudy (that's why we missed the lunar eclipse last night), but the warmest day we've had in 2 weeks or more, seems like it anyway<<<<C'mon Spring, but not to fast.

Hey...we agree lol.

Winter is not my fun time. Go to work when its dark and get home when its getting dark. Too depressing.

So are we taking bets on what Phil the groundhog will say on Feb 2 this year?

Scott
"In the first place, we should insist that if the immigrant who comes here in good faith becomes an American and assimilates himself to us, he shall be treated on an exact equality with everyone else, for it is an outrage to discriminate against any such man because of creed, or birthplace, or origin. But this is predicated upon the person's becoming in every facet an American, and nothing but an American...There can be no divided allegiance here. Any man who says he is an American, but something else also, isn't an American at all. We have room for but one flag, the American flag...We have room for but one language here, and that is the English language...And we have room for but one sole loyalty and that is a loyalty to the American people."

I appreciate your sentiment, but the sad fact is that the solstice marks the beginning of winter, not the end.  Winter officially ends March 21st and that seems like a long time from now.     On the more positive side, we should get up to 52 degrees tomorrow so I will be out staining hives in the sunshine.  This will be our one moment above 50 over what looks to be at least a 3 week period.

We had no idea you wielded such power!  Get those shorts on and get outside!  What are you waiting for?  Whoa, I'd better get the lawn mower tuned up.

Same here Jp, but this winter (ok, not official winter so fall) has been a rough one already. Normally the bees can find at least a little bit to forage until late Jan but we've had 3 "killer" freezes already and everything is brown...even the spanish needle.
