Hey,
those are really cooool!
I just ordered a Tamron 90 for my D-50 to shoot macro...took me several weeks to decide between the sigma 105 and the Tamron.(Does THAT statement sound professional?) Fact of the matter is, I was waiting for my tax refund..I should get the lens any day now. Really tho, I DID have to do a lot of homework and decision making prior to selecting a macro lens. Yeh, i like pics of little things and along with my bees theres tons of stuff where i live that creep around my feet that i dont know about!
your friend,
john

Great pictures JP, can you explain the second and third one?
is that outside or inside a hive?

You can see the tongues on these bees, they're drinking their sugar water.

2nd is a closeup of a removal I did inside a soffit, 3rd is of a swarm trap that built comb on the outside of the trap.

BabyPhatt455.  I think that you are confused about what you are seeing in JP's pictures of the honeycomb.  I was too once, not that long ago. I have only seen comb that is built inside the hive, on frames.  When bees build comes without frames that is how combs are naturally built.  I didn't know that until I saw the comb that was being built in the cutouts that members have been posting pictures about.  Sounds kind of dumb I know.  But unless you see comb that is built naturally, one has no clue what it really looks like in nature.

It looks so different than the comb that we see built inside a colonly on the frames.

Is that what you meant BabyPhatt455?  I wasn't sure, but I think that is what your question was.  There are lots of pictures of these huge like 5 to 6 feet long combs that the bees have built in walls and roof sofits, etc. on this forum, you should go and have a look at some of them, just for fun, it will rock your socks, I know it sure did mine.  I was astounded at how it actually looked, built naturally.  Have a wonderful and beautifully awesome day.  Cindi

Very cool photos. I lik'em a lot. A handful of members have emailed such great photos which I use for educational purposes. Kids are blown away by the macro shots as a general rule. awesome educational tool.
