Title: Silence is Golden
Post by: cidersabuzzin on May 10, 2017, 01:51:20 PM
Since Trump fired the FBI Director there has been a derth of concern on here . I take it everyone agrees with it? Or is this the thin edge of the wedge!

It is just another act by the self proclaimed dictator because of someone getting close.  History repeats itself on a regular basis so it is only a matter of time when the dictator falls.  He can't fire everyone and he can't prevent those that know from keeping it quiet.  Republicans are getting uneasy, and they should be.

It should have been done on Day One.  In fact, obama should have done it weeks or months before.  The FBI will take years to recover from the damage done to its institutional integrity by Comey's violation of its rules.

Y'all do realize that job is retained "at the pleasure of the President", don't you?
The Left vilified Comey for speaking out on the felonies the Shrillary commited.  Hated him.  Now that he's been canned, they're howling foul.  Leftists are worse than a bunch of fickle school girls.
Need a Whaaambulance?

He angry off the boss and got canned.  Get over it.

I would not put it past Trump to fire someone who was investigating him but Trump, for whatever you want to say about him, is not dumb and he knows that this will only intensify the investigation against him.

My faith in all this has gone down since Lynch met with Clinton on the tarmac during the election and Clinton was not at least charged with something.

The sad thing is they put party before country.
We've got a new President and they are actively trying to impeach him.  (At least they say they are.)
The level of hostility and poor statesmanship is not good for the country.
Even the MSM reported on the hypocrisy of the left regarding the Comey firing.  As if the public has no memory?
All this makes a good case for term limits.

The only problem there is most don't follow the constitution. Heck I think I remember one guy say it was full negative liberties. And he would fundamentally change America.
If those in government won't follow it it is our duty to hold them to account.
Problem with that is more people can name the real housewives, but not their representatives.

Psparr,
I think you misunderstood my question.

Who votes for someone like Congressman Hank Johnson who is so stupid that he asked an Admiral if he was afraid Guam would tip over if we deployed 8000 marines there!!!!  Or who voted  for Maxine  Waters who insists there was "conclusion"  (huh?) between the  Trump team and the Kremlin. Who votes for someone like Representative Sheila Jackson Lee who proclaimed North & South Vietnam were peaceful neighbors. (Maybe she missed the memo in 1976 when they merged.)

I am actually 1  of the fed  up majority - which is no longer silent.

That was my question.

Title: Re: Silence is Golden
Post by: iddee on May 21, 2017, 09:52:41 PM
Absolutely not. I receive nothing but what I work or worked for.  Retirement only gave me SS, which I worked for 48 years to earn. If I had invested the money I paid in, I would likely be much better off. The gov. takes all my medicare back for reasons I won't get into, but the fact remains I receive no medicare or other retirement related bennies.

If I had invested the money I paid in, I would likely be much better off.

Most people could say the same.  SS is a tax not an investment.  What you put in went to your parents, who probable paid very little, war machines, bullets and bombs.  This continues today where the younger generation will pay for the older generation.  Can you see that changing?

The irony is most people cannot survive on SS mainly because health care costs consumes the benefit.  The biggest drain an any healthcare system is old people.  They are the non working unhealthy class.  Young people have very little need for healthcare as compared to old people.  The primary health care use for young people is either making babies or trying to prevent making babies.  A very minor cost compared to keeping an old person alive for the last few years of their life.

Now our government is actively selling war machines to the Saudi's.  The government doesn't make the machines some company does.  Did the Saudi's need the machines?  Did the american people ask the orange turd to do this?  This is another flaky deal that is going to cost us.  But nobody cares.  Ignorance is bliss.

SS is a tax not an investment.  What you put in went to your parents, who probable paid very little............... This is the most important thing you just said. The boomers, have not paid the full amount of the SS tax except since around 83 I believe. That is not all of their working life. Since at least the 90's we have known we are going to have a budget shortfall on SS but hte boomers never wanted to fully fund a system they plan on draining dry so I say we cut their benefits now so their children don't suffer.
Title: Re: Silence is Golden

so I say we cut their benefits now so their children don't suffer.

All we have to do is cut the ridiculous military spending and we can all have a yacht to retire in.  The yacht can be handed down so our children could trade it for a new one if they wanted to when they get of age.  Although if we stop killing and maiming our youth in these wars we will probably have too many to support.  We will have to create another government program ACC, Adult Child Care.
Title: Re: Silence is Golden
Post by: beecanbee on May 22, 2017, 03:17:38 PM
I`d liken SS to an insurance policy - neither an investment, nor a welfare system for the aged.  Those who pay in but die early loose, while those who live longer win - possibly even receiving more in value than they paid in.
Title: Re: Silence is Golden

SS Is a Ponzi scheme. Plain and simple.
Title: Re: Silence is Golden
Post by: Acebird on May 22, 2017, 05:33:28 PM
No it is not an insurance company because if you die early it goes to your spouse and maybe even your kids.  It is a government program that is funded by taxes.  Nothing else compares to it.  The entitlement primarily benefits older people who are limited on how much they work.  For some reason if your income is derived from investments you don't get penalized.  So Trump can get SS as long as he doesn't draw a paycheck.  Of course he did take his paycheck when he said he wouldn't so at least he can't get SS.  Oh wait a minute I think if you are over 73 you can make as much as you want so maybe he can get SS.
Now if you didn't need to work from age 65 to 73 why would you start working at 73?  Who in their right mind would hire you?  These are the things wrong with most government programs.  There has to be some benefit to the rule makers because things don't make sense to the common folk.

compared to the entitlement programs the military is a very small part of our spending.  in 2015 we had a $3.8 trillion. 2/3 of the budget is entitlement spending.  military spending has gone down from its peak in 2010 by about 1 billion dollars. Discretionary spending, which includes the military, is actually less than a 1/3 of the budget because of the interest on the federal debt.

6.5 % of discretionary spending is spent financing the government workings.

What percent of the US budget is spent on the military?
Once you include the 60 percent of the budget that is mandatory spending, the military share plunges from 57 percent to 16 percent, and the categories that include Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid collectively account for a majority of federal spending.Aug 17, 2015

How much money is spent on the military a year?
Military Spending in the United States. In fiscal year 2015, military spending is projected to account for 54 percent of all federal discretionary spending, a total of$598.5 billion.

Yes, but what you fail to grasp is that discretionary spending accounts for only 1/3 of all spending and if you take out what is fed to the government, less than 1/3.

The entire budget is headed for 4 TRILLION dollars.  The majority of that money going to some kind of social welfare program or government funded/backed retirement program AND servicing the debt.

Yes, yes, Kathy.  Now eliminate the 54% spent unnecessary on the military that is discretionary and fund health care and then we can all live long happy lives.  It will also not fuel the flames over in the Middle East and maybe we don't need homeland security.  Another huge savings.

...  Now eliminate the 54% spent unnecessary on the military that is discretionary and fund health care ...

An alternative approach might be to keep military spending level, but significantly increase the social services budget, and of course taxation to cover it.  I am amazed that there is a push to eliminate the US estate/inheritance tax, when it generates so little in taxes, since it is so easy on asset holders.

Our inheritance taxes kick in at 15% for just $300k and increase to 50% at $3mil.

Ours is an inheritance tax, paid by the legal recipient, with no limit to the number of such legal recipients, so actually encourages adoptions.

(What a great way to solve the illegal immigrant issue the US has.   ).

I googled `judicial watch bias` and found a media-bias rating site, and compared JW against The Huffington Post, to see if the site appeared to be non-biased themselves.  IMO, this site checks out.

I have also written to PolitiFact to check on JW`s Harry Reid corruption article, but that would take some time, assuming that they agree to take it up.

Beecan,
I applaud you for searching both sides of the story.
You can find endless anti Republican stories in the following:  ABC, CBS, NBC, MSNBC, CNBC, CNN...  Nearly 75% of the TV broadcast in the USA.  I recall some organization putting a 94% negative reporting of the major networks against Trump.  I can reference the date if you choose.
None of them fall in the "Least Biased" category in the Media Bias/Fact Checker you so kindly referred to me.
Funny enough, as you would consider Fox biased, as a Conservitive, I would consider AP, Rueters, C-SPAN, Earth Institute, Gallup, Harvard Gazette or anything else Harvard, International Energy Agency, Kaiser Family Foundation, Science Debate, Snopes, Stars and Stripes (but not for the reason you might think), The Jerusalem Post (really?), The Times of India (even more really?), Voice of America (no way), Wikipedia (scrubbed by the wealthy, I mean beltway), World News hardly unbiased, I would think they are left to strong left leaning.  And those are the ones I read.
So to compare Judicial Watch, I say ehh.  None of the above will cover the JW topics.  Just bias I guess.
Ever hear of George Soros?

Also from the Media Biased/Fact Checker Headline:

Beyond the CBO score: How Trump Budget and the AHCA are dismantling America?s safety net
https://mediabiasfactcheck.com/2017/05/25/beyond-the-cbo-score-how-trump-budget-and-the-ahca-are-dismantling-americas-safety-net/

Of course, an unbiased headline on a fact checker site.

Good day Mr. Beecan

jvalentour, Thanks...

I have no issue with a site being biased (which is good, since it seems most are).  I am more concerned with fake, false, and intentionally misleading ? which most are not, though some get so labeled in the heat of debate.  My list of frequented news sites shows a bias mostly to the R-of-Center, and that is good for me to now know.  I just popped USA-Today to the top, since they and Reuters scored best, and shifted CNN down.  IMO, confirmation bias selection ? only reading news which reinforces ones` own political leanings, needs to be overcome, no matter how painful it may seem.

I enjoy reading the news across the various countries I visited while working ? the US, UK, India, Australia, Singapore, and Canada, but spend most of my time on Japan sources.
