Bee Vac and Blower
« on: October 15, 2005, 11:33:34 pm »
:D  <THE PICTURES ARE IN REVERSE ORDER>  These are two tools I've developed for my use. The Screen box was made first and the vac box built around it.  The Vac is a 1.5hp shop vac.  I show it with all the hose attached, all 21' of it.
The bottom slides all the way out, and the box can be used on top or underneath the hive body, the dimensions are the same as a standard 10 frame hive.
The bushing for the vac I got at a plumbing store.  It is rated at the tip at 200mph and 400cfm.  Blowing the bees out really helps, I've ended up with only approx 50 bee in fifty honey supers after blowing them out.  When I use the blower I try to blow from the bottom up first, holding (resting) the super at approx 15 degree angle up-words, then turn the super around and blow up-words from the top.  It seems to disorient the bees with no apparent harm.

When you close your eyes we are all the same.
