Title: Bottom Board

I recently bought a bottom board for my hive, and they say it is reversible. On the backside, it has smaller sides, and on the one facing up it has larger sides. Which side should i paint (The One with the larger sides or the one with the smaller sides) and what are the larger/smaller sides needed for?

It is idea in beehives that we keep wooden inner sides clean with flame. When moisture is always on the bottom paint shall not stay long on the wood.

Why to paint?  It is good to protect the wood that it does not absorb all kind of dirty.

If you paint the other side it doest not let moiture through the wood.

The theory on the reversible bottom board is large entrance in summer, and flip it over to the smaller entrance in winter.

thank you robo, that cleared a lot up. I am just going to paint the outside part, and not the insides parts.
