New Bees - An opportunity missed.
« on: November 25, 2013, 02:17:14 am »
I feel a bit foolish for missing this opportunity.

I got my packages of bees on Friday 1 November. I put them in the hive (one hive because one queen was DOA) on 2 November. I checked the hive on Saturday 23 November and thought that because I'd already filmed the previous inspections that I wouldn't bother with this one.

Again, I didn't see the queen, but I saw plenty of eggs and larvae in various stages. I also saw drones, new worker bees and worker bees eating their way out of the cells.

It wasn't until I'd packed up for the weekend and was driving back to the city that I realised the opportunity I'd missed. Three weeks in the hive...It's likely that Saturday was the very first day that bees had emerged from their cells. And it'd bloody well passed up the opportunity to film it!
