Where to buy bees in Northern California?
« on: March 24, 2006, 07:48:32 pm »
Hi! I'm getting back into the hobby after being out of it for a few years. I think when I originally got into the hobby about 5 years ago, I purchased bees from someone in Georgia or something, and I seem to remember them getting stuck at the post office and most of them dying. But anyway, I'd like to find a source of good bees here in Northern California. Or, if anyone knows of a good reliable source somewhere else that can ship them to me, that's fine too.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance!

There are quite a few suppliers in Northern California.  Koehnen is one of the largest producers of queens, and shakes alot of packages up there in Glenn.  There are a couple more in Chico and I think there might be some in Red Bluff.  I believe there is another in Marysville.  I'm having trouble with names at the moment, but I'll add them if they come to me.  Lots of options to choose from out there.  These should get you started.

There are a couple of commercial beekeepers in Redding, California. One of them is Wooten's Goldenqueens and you can email him here...
