How to move Bees an hour north in this heat 85=90
« on: July 06, 2011, 08:20:07 am »
I bought some hives and need to pick them up
The owner has gotten me paranoid
He states its too hot here in TampaBay
and the 3 story hives should be split
into singles screened bottoms and tops
I am taking these at or near sunset
about 45 minutes north of where they are
To their new home
Can I just stack and strap them as long
as they have screened bottoms and I will
Staple screen on the entrances

Thanks
Tommyt

Yes, just screen the entrance, strap and move them. Set them on the truck so there's plenty of air flow around them. When you get them home set them up and pull the screens after smoking the entrance a little. They'll be ready to go to work next morning.

The Beek who owns them said they won't take the stress and heat
I told him If I screened the top the bees would
Have a Chimney and the air from below would come up and out
almost too cool
If I'm do 60 mpg the air will be flowing
I'll just lift load and go

BTW

How much should 3 deeps of bees  weigh
he said very little honey.

Thanks

3 deeps weighs 2............2 much for one person to move comfortably!

"In the first place, we should insist that if the immigrant who comes here in good faith becomes an American and assimilates himself to us, he shall be treated on an exact equality with everyone else, for it is an outrage to discriminate against any such man because of creed, or birthplace, or origin. But this is predicated upon the person's becoming in every facet an American, and nothing but an American...There can be no divided allegiance here. Any man who says he is an American, but something else also, isn't an American at all. We have room for but one flag, the American flag...We have room for but one language here, and that is the English language...And we have room for but one sole loyalty and that is a loyalty to the American people."

It might be better to cobble up some screens and mark and remove the top box.  You can lift a two deep if you aren't old and fat like me and I think I still could..  Put them back together at your location.  If it is a dearth, you won't miss the bees you lose too much.  You could leave one hivebody there to collect flyers and come back and get it.   Good Luck
