Dark Honey
« on: August 20, 2007, 11:23:02 am »
So far all the honey I have extracted over the weekend has been extremely dark.  It also leans towards having a nutty flavor.

Any ideas as to what they may have been collecting for the midwest states?

Anyone else seeing that for the honey this year?

From what I,ve read,Japanese knotweed will make a slight walnut flavor in the honey.

One of my  bee people at UGA told me it was Tulip poplar. If you didn's harvest any earlier, like in Mid. may to mid June then that is what it may be. Unless its honey locust or persimon.
I have those trees too.
Most likely tulip popular.

It is interesting.  It is a very very mild nut flavoring.  I brought it to my beer club last night and let some guys out there sample it.  The mead makers were excited and asked how much of it I have.

Beer club?

We usually call them "bars" or "pubs".

yeah we like the pubs too.  The beer club is a bunch of folks locally that like to make their own booze.

Common saying around the club.  Bottle in front of me or frontal lobotomy.
