Looking for bees/beekeeping supplies in Atlanta
« on: December 29, 2009, 03:31:26 pm »
Hey folks - I've got a friend looking to start some hives in the Atlanta area this year, and I didn't know who to refer him to. I got all my stuff from PN several years ago, but I've heard he's no longer in the business. Anyone have local contacts for getting hives, hive tools, veils, nucs, etc?

Thanks
Craig

The Bee Club in Canton is great.  Everyone is very helpful and there are some members that make and sell equipment.  They have a bee school in February that is very, very helpful and inexpensive.  Admission to the school also includes one year membership.  There members are everyone from people that think they might be interested all the way to commercial guys with 100's of hives.  Very down home good ole boys and girls that make you feel very welcome and more than happy to give you advice.

Great bunch of people and BJ is very knowledgeable.  I highly recommend the beginners beekeeping school they have in February.  Admission to the school also included 1 year membership dues.  There are several people in the group that manufacture and sell supplies.

Does Fatbeeman treat his bees?  Are his natural treatments considered treatments regarding resistance?

Thank you for the correction TwT I was wrong.  As far as how he treats his bees I don't know you'll need to contact him on that.

The starter kit offered by Mike is the one I started with.  If I had it to do again I would not start with that starter kit.  The vale is terrible and doesn't come with a hat, I have never used my gloves or entrance feeder.  I also prefer the other kind of hive tool that has the hook on it for lifting frames.  The starter kit doesn't not come with any supers which you will need immediately for feeding.  The book that comes with it is pretty good.  It might be a better value to build your own starter kit and pick and choose the components.  The saving for assembling your own boxes and frames is obvious.
