mild winter and varoa control
« on: March 17, 2007, 04:25:13 pm »
Hi I am living in Czech rep.,
as in whole Europe, we have had very mild winter (arround 0°C). We see quite high ammount of the mites in the colonies. Our regular procedure is to use twoo aerosol fumigations before Christmas, when queens are not laying eggs. But this year queens did not stop, so many mites were hidden in coverd cells. What is regular procedures in this mild weather. By the vet authorities we have to fumigate again and to use special treatment for the brood.

what do you use to treat your bees for mites?
Someone really ought to tell them that the world of Ayn Rand?s novel was not meant to be aspirational.

In South Carolina we had a very mild winter. My mom treated here hive with Api-Stan last Feb, any other chemical would probably work. Our queens generally lay year round.
