Rain ...
« on: October 03, 2013, 05:14:17 am »
Hi  All,

The first decent rain since installing  my new hive .

I have a solid bottom board  and have the hive leaning forward a bit.
( I have chocked up the back a little over a centimeter )

After the rain - I notice the debris ( little balls of what appear to be wax mostly ) that
has collected on the bottom is all wet right up to the back
of the hive - I'm assuming the wind was blowing the wrong way  ....

I have no way of knowing how deep the water got - but I'm very worried my Apithor
beetle trap may have  gotten wet, as it was wet around it .... I've taken it out
for now. ( it had maybe 5 beetles dead inside )

If it got wet inside does anyone know if the active in ingredients  leach out and may be
on/around/in my bottom board ?

Do I fix this by leaning the hive even further forward - how much is the "Slightly"
I've read is required ?

Is this a common problem with this type of small beetle trap or just a failure of the
installer :p

Any thoughts much appreciated.

Cheers

Hi, yep I have had the same problem with the Apithor getting wet. The instructions say to put it on the bottom board however I now put it onto of the frames in the Brood box. It still seems to work ok.

If you have another bottom board it wouldn't hurt to swap them over and clean the other one with hot soapy water a few times.

Cheers
Steve
