Hello all forum members. We are proud to bring you an evening of chat with Don "Fatbeeman" of Dixie Bee supply. He will join us in our ventrilo talk forum on Saturday evening at 9:00 PM eastern time.
Don has been pesticide free since 1993. He is more than anxious to share his knowledge and experience with anyone who chooses to participate. He wants to help any body he can so drop in and say hello.I know there are a lot of pesticide free people out there with questions they'd like guidance on!!
The ventrilo chat program has voice and text chat options so people can participate by whichever means they choose.
For more info on the Ventrilo program, click on this link:

                                                                                                Ken

I will do my best to be there tonight! Everyone think about some tough questions to throw at 'em, he wants them difficult! lol.

Also, everyone should make some type of effort to visit the ventrillo forums, whether it be the chat section or the text section. Did you know that you can LISTEN in without having to talk? You can listen and text a response or just listen if you like, there's no pressure. But, for those who are getting into beekeeping that have questions now, why not give it a try and get your questions answered immediately, by a real person such as Don.

The moderators can and will walk you through the set up, they are very helpful, Ken (Buzzbee) helped me quite a bit, and set me up in no time. So hey, we would love to see you in there! And in case you're wondering, I am just a forum member, just like you.

I don't get it. With so many people on the chat, how does one get a word in edgewise?  Does cyberspace stack the conversations or something, very confusing I would say, have a wonderful and greatest of this day, love life.  Cindi

Cindi, we all are respectful of others in there and if someone speaks and another at the same time we diplomatically yield to one or the other trying to speak. Its not a problem. Besides only a few ever talk anyway. A lot of listeners. But anyone at any time is encouraged to voice their question or statement, etc... Miss Pepper was in there last night, she's from Washington, and Ann, Reinbeau, stops in often. Did you know that you can listen in and text chat at the same time?

I can agree with cindi. Bear in mind you can actually have many conversations going on at the same time both chat and text. It gets confusing when you lose track of whose question is being responded to, especially for me because of the accent/s by the time I figure out what the statement or question was the response may have come already.. That being said, last night was informative for the time i was on

I shouldn't say unfortunately because I do enjoy our Maine home, but unfortunately I couldn't join in last night, as we have no internet connection up there (we're just not up enough to justify it).  Oh well, next Saturday!

And Cindi, seriously, it isn't all that confusing or difficult, as JP says, people aren't all chatting at once, one speaks at a time, answers are given one at a time, and things flow at a nice, calm pace.  It's fun, and very inexpensive (a microphone costs less than $10 and is easy to install, it just plugs in).  I used to use mIRC and PowWow all the time, so the text chat is a breeze for me, but I do understand how others can get a bit confused by it until they get used to it.

Come on and join us!

JP and Ann, thinking, thinking.  I may listen in one time, I don't think I have a mic so it would be listening.  Something that entralls me and always has is that southern drone that many people have.  That is a compliment to all you southern folk.  I find it a very comforting sound for one reason or another, the reason who knows, and to listen to folk speaking with this accent is a very nice thought in my mind.  No clue when I might get a chance to get on and listen and snoop, but that day may come.  I honestly think that I would have to put on some headphones because my Husband certainly would not like to listen in to bee talk, hee, hee.  Have a wonderful and awesome day, love our life we lead.  Cindi

I have been able to get on with a Mac. You might want to go back and make sure that you put in everything correctly.

Slowly, slowly, slowly, my interest is getting higher, hee, hee.  I might just have to go there, but it will be a secret, no one will know that I am lurking, cause I am not going to tell anyone, I really am a very very shy person with people I don't know.  Yep, maybe my Hubby might find something of interest too, one never can tell that tale. Have the most beautiful and wonderful day, I think there's somethin' groovy now.....Cindi

OK, so what are the "right" settings for a Mac?   I have seen the PC screens, are there Mac screen shots of the settings.

Do you have 10.3 or up Rantcliff?
I may need to set the server for Speex!!
Cindi,
You can use a different name in the ventrilo window for a user name if you wish and it makes you more comfortable!!

OK, so what are the "right" settings for a Mac?   I have seen the PC screens, are there Mac screen shots of the settings.

Click the arrow next to the username.

Click the arrow next to name and enter in your username, you can enter your name in phonetically if you want.

Click on the arrow next to server.

Click the name button and enter in a name then enter in the ip address and port number and there is no password.

Click setup.

Make sure all the boxes in the upper left hand corner are selected. You can then click on the hotkey area where the circle is to change what you need to press to talk. You do not have to do this and can just use what is default. Then on the right there is a drop down menu where you can select your microphone or just leave it to be on default.

Now go back to the main page and click connect.

PS. For some reason I had mute sound and mute microphone selected in the pictures. Do not do that if you want to be able to talk to people.
