Hi from central MA
« on: August 04, 2009, 01:24:32 pm »
Hi everyone - Brion here from Central Massachusetts.  Second year beekeeper.  My father, who lives in NY, got me into it with my first hive last year.  Unfortunately, they didn't make it through the winter, but I'm trying again this year with another package.  So far they seem to be doing great except for this lousy weather we've had here in the NorthEast this year.  They swarmed though, and I actually caught them!  My first swarm catch!  :-D  It's getting really interesting for me and I know I'm getting hooked because I now find myself paying attention to every flower that blooms.  I won't mow the lawn during the day.  I even let a patch of lawn go wild - stopped mowing it altogether this spring to let it return to a meadow for the bees.  I'm happy to have found these forums!

Diggity, welcome to our forum, what do you like to be called, Diggity or Brion?  It is important to me to know by what you would like to be addressed  :) :).  So nice that you have found us.  You will find this a wonderful place to spend time, a place that you can tell your stories, tales and experiences to, we love to listen, and we also love to help and give advice when asked.  I am so happy that you did not give up after you lost your bees this winter, that is a devoted beekeeper, you will become one day a great beekeeper, and will help many people with your knowledge you will acquire.  Cool that you caught your swarm, that is a very good feeling, that feeling of success.  Stick around, we love new members.  Have a most wonderful day, love and live it with great health.  Cindi

Thanks for the encouragement everyone!  Cindi, I'll probably go by Diggity, since that's the handle I use over on GardenWeb (my OTHER obsession is vegetable gardening - quick promo for my book: check out gardenimperative.net.).  Beekeepers seem to be nice, pleasant, kind people just as gardeners are, so I'm looking forward to checking in here from time to time.  I only say that because my professional life is in technology where people are NOT always nice, kind, or pleasant, so it's great to hang out with people who are. :)

Jim, thanks for the links - I'll check 'em out!

Cheers,
-Diggity

Hello Diggity. Somehow I missed you when you first signed on. I'm not far away, in Lancaster, entering my 3rd season as a beek and learning a ton on this forum. Welcome!
