New Honeybee Removal Website
« on: December 18, 2006, 08:14:41 pm »
Hi Everyone,

I know I'm setting myself up for a ton of work by posting this but I wanted to let everyone know that I have almost completed website totally dedicated to helping people find someone to help them remove bees from their property. The URL is http://www.swarmremoval.com

If you want me to post your information on the site let me know your name, phone number and the state you are in with a brief description of the are you cover and I'll post the info ASAP. I know there are  few sites out there that have bee removal info and contact info but I wanted this to be totally dedicated to the art / hobby.

I welcome feedback and hope to have the discussion board and photos area up soon. I need to talk with beemaster about getting the type of BB on my site that he has on his. I'm also working on a way to allow photo uploads so you can post your removal photos.

Again the url is http://www.swarmremoval.com

Scott, wow, good for you.  I live in Canada.  Too bad your site did not cover southwestern British Columbia.  Great day. Cindi

Scott:

I just sent you (I hope a long response) saying check the RAPID BEE GROWTH FORUM - directly below a CHILD FORUM (wish the called it sub-forum) is called Honeybee Removal. Please write a short article and post links to your site with a proposal to anyone interested in joining your cause by state, etc..

The lengthy letter I accidentally sent (I think) while spell checking, please let me know if you received that one too - it covers a few clues at getting to the top of the engines and staying there.

Best wishes and glad to help.

Hi Everyone,

Some good news!!! Swarmremoval.com is #4 on the google search engine under the keywords "swarm removal" and "honeybee swarm removal". This is exactly what I was hoping for. When the spring comes we should be in good position which will allow those of us who "wrangle" to go after more "free bees". I don't know about all you folks but free bees are good!!!

Thanks to all of you who have send me your contact information. I have been able to upload almost all information within at least 24 hours.

Scott, good for you!!!!  I cannot tell you how happy I am.

I had two swarms that I actually had to go by vehicle to go and try to catch.  We were successful in our attempt.  My husband by my side.

This year I am going to advise the RCMP and Fire Department that we will be able to try to rid residents of their swarms. My neice told me a couple of weeks ago that a friend of hers has had a bee colony living in one of her sub-shrubs for several years, and she finally wants these critters to be removed.  I am going to look into it, and maybe I will have a strong colony. Obviously this colony must be pretty strong otherwise they would not still be alive after all these years ????

So, I'm putting the question out.  If there is a known colony living in a place for a long time, I wonder what is the best time of year to get in there and "get" them.  I would imagine long before the spring build-up is in full swing?  Comments, bring them on.  Great day.  Cindi

Cindi,

I have two swarms that took up residence in differents walls of homes recently. I have created a "Spring Swarm / Colony Removal" list that and I plan on going after them in the spring. From everthing I have been taught there are now drones in the hive right now. If I went to get the colonies and either was unable to get the queen or killed her by accident the colony would be seriously compromised and I don't want to do that. Besides it's too cold. It is a bad feeling when you kill a swarm. I've done that twice and I was sick to my stomach for days.

So I would say wait until the spring to go after them.

Anyone else out there have any other thoughts.

Hey get some shots of your removals and I'll put the up on the site. All the best!

Scott, after the Christmas time is done I'll dig up a picture of a swarm that we caught.  Only have the one swarm picture, didn't bother to take any of the other ones.  Great day. Cindi

Be careful. There's an old saying that "No good deed will go unpunished."
Bee removal is one of many wildlife related problems we deal with. Before you go make sure you know who is responsible if anything goes wrong. If you or anyone gets hurt for example. Or a neighbor kid runs into the area just as you drop the swarm.
We carry $1mill in insurance just in case. It pays to be sure.

Wayne,

If you don't mind me asking, about how much should someone expect to pay to carry this insurance? I have been concerned about this so I created a subsidiary business under my company to protect myself. I have been considering insurance.

Insurance rates depend on how much coverage you want and the cost to risk ratio.

Also you may require a profesional license just to get insurance or at least a buisness license. You area may vary from mine.

Also inorder to use chemicals for bee removal you must carry a license. In Florida you must be a professional exterminator for use of chemicals. Please note Florida considers soap and water a chemical mix requiring a professional license.

So I can remove swarms but I cannot use chemicals to do it. I do not carry insurance because I am not doing this as a profession. I also don't take on jobs that are more than I can handle. Fortunatly 20 + years of construction work give a good background on how to tear holes in a wall.

Sincerely,
Brendhan

Because we use repellants on some animals and birds, we need chemical coverage. For us it runs about $2 grand a year for everything.

My thought has been to get a permit or professional licence to use chemical if need be. I have especially considered this due to the possibility that the AHB could be in our area in the next 3 to 5 years. I could be a good business venture. I typically have the customer sign a waiver that states that I am not responsible for the damage that is caused to their property. It is stated in the waiver many times that they are responsible for the repairs to their property. I of course do as little damage as necessary. I will most likely do repairs this year but that opens another whole issue about building permits and liability.

Lots of things to consider.  :?
