I got my first bee equipment yesterday!
« on: March 01, 2007, 10:19:57 am »
Needless to say, I'm pumped up about it:

Pardon the silly look on my face--I was trying to act like a cave man.

Just wanted to share the joy!

Congrats! you look as happy as I was.  :-D
I got mine 2 weeks ago. The first thing I did was fire up the smoker to see how well it works and to test the fuel I plan to use. I'm still try'n to get use to the bee helmet that goes to my bee suit. Now can't wait till the bees are ready to install.

Won't there be a problem having all those bees flying around in your living room? :-D

Congradulations.

Sincerely,
Brendhan

Beautiful looking equipment!  Now you have to worry about whether to paint, what color, etc.  I've spent the last couple of weeks repainting all my old stuff and getting the new ready. (My two hives both died over the winter.)  I'm going to try and run four hives this year.  I've ordered two packages of bees and have signed up to capture swarms here in Sacramento.

All the best!

I'm going to dip mine in paraffin and gum rosin this year.

Lucky man. I can only get "made to order" and it never looks as good as yours. Showing my carpenter that picture ? I fear he has an attitude problem.

Is that the Betterbee package?  (guessing by the smoker) I started with that in 2005.

One thing you should put on the list of "to dos" is to learn to light your smoker.  It'll be usefull to be able to light it and not have it go out in 15 minutes or, blow hot ash on the bees.

Thank you for the advice--I will learn to light it first.  This smoker and the rest of the equipment is from Brushy Mountain.  I debated between them and Betterbee, and ultimately decided to buy my bee suits from Betterbee but most of the equipment from Brushy Mt.

The greatest smoker lighter ever is a self igniting propane torch.  WOW!  I wish I'd had one of these 33 years ago.
