just picked up a nice little 3lb or so swarm in the pouring rain. they were so soggy they were happy to find a dry box and some food :-D
and no JP, i didn't take pics. forgot my camera and forgot i had my phone!

I have never got one in the rain! Congrats.

yonkey, don't wish for it. sometimes they can be down right nasty when the weather is bad. this one was hanging about a foot off the ground and once i got them started, they slipped right down between the frames. probably the easiest i have ever gotten and almost no stragglers because they were not flying much.

Congrats on the catch Kathy! Caught a small swarm over a month ago and that hive is produces some honey. Looked in today and was impressed by the cone the built. Have them in a top bar hive and almost half full already. THe couple cutouts I have done recently are slow to draw out cone and after reading a bit I have got the impression that swarms are harder workers.

Nice Kathy. Amazing you got them in the rain like that. I would imagine they would not move at all and very grateful for their new dry home.
Been getting lots of bee calls lately.

Its okay Kathy, I believe you caught your swarm. ;) I recall you catching another that was wet a few years ago.

You lucky gal you. It was nasty yesterday.....at least on the other side of the river from you.

the one that sent me home looking like a full pin cushion!!
Jack, it was nice here yesterday...nice being a relative term.... no calls, but lots of yard work done :-D

I think we are getting our days goofed, I post early am and you post later....so our days are goofy. Yesterday it poured almost all morning, but when it stopped they were humping to get the foraging going, not wasting any time at all.
Maybe I will get a swarm this weekend??? That would be cool.

i'm looking forward to it. hoping for swarm calls also, but i sure have a lot of work to do outside. after the rain yesterday the wind kicked up. it was nasty here. don't know that mine flew at all.

Great job Kathy.....I would hate to have to catch one in the rain.
