Just more proof that the average person is an idiot and will believe what they are told, as long as it's slick and entertaining.  It's all about image and packaging.  Americans aren't interested in facts.   Just about anyone under 30 years old needs to be entertained every waking moment.  They get up in the morning and turn on a TV.  Then they plug an Ipod in their head and off to work and unless their boss tells them to take it off, that's where it will stay.

I understand your sentiment. However I don't completely agree with it. When it comes to children if I can teach them and keep them entertained while doing it I win the children win. And I have to admit I would rather spend three hours in a lecture that is entertaining than one that droll. Because my retention is better. I think good teachers make learning the facts fun.

Obviously the youtube cartoon is not correct and I wouldnt expect it to be.  I think some of you are missing the point.  I am not opposed to ducks, bees, bears, etc talking or what have you.  My biggest problem with the movie is the portrayal of beeks as evil capitalists profiteers.

Why doesnt Disney put out a movie about evil capitalists profiteers that have a theme park empire all over the world that puts out animated movies?  Think of the carbon footprint of all those parks and all the pollution the cars and planes make bringing millions of evil doing humans to the parks every year.  And just think of all the evil money these parks make!!  "We make the money and the park pollutes the earth plenty!" could be the chant of the CEO and his henchmen.

Man that is just filled with so much contradiction I don't know where to begin.

Quote
Scientifically, the entire movie is a farce.  Males (pollen jocks) are not workers , females are.  Bees don't pick one job for their entire life, they perform several jobs throughout their lifetime.  FLOWERS ARE NOT PRODUCED BY BEES, flowers are fertilized by bees which created FRUITS AND FERTILIZED SEEDS.

Now it's just the beekeepers  as evil capitalists profiteers.
This is known in circles as changing the subject.

So because the movie portrays beekeepers as evil instead of wasps or varroa. Suddenly it's bad. A couple of things here. One not all beekeepers are good people. If they were we wouldn't have people here in Florida trying to sue the importers but I will guess that's okay because the chinese aren't human right? Also you didn't write the movie. That doesn't mean you have to like it but the reasons for your disdain are pretty weak.

This comment goes to stereotype. Because it's animated it must be Disney. Then the rest of the comment digresses into an appeal about the carbon foot print. This is just poor on many levels.

Disney did not make the Bee Movie. It was a Dreamworks productions. And specifically it was Steven Spielberg who got Jerry to work on making the movie a reality. You know Steven he made that movie called ET. The one where the adults chase the boy and his Reeses pieces alien. Those evil adults, how could they. All he wanted was to make a phone call. (Touch of sarcasm in there? you bet)

And so we can address your evil theme park empire and movies. Movies cost money to get made. A lot of it. I am not giving full justification to the evil theme park empire but I realize when you lead star is getting 20 million to star in a movie  and the rest of your production costs which includes the salaries of those who do all the rigging and set building, and in the case of a modern animation all the people who design the code and make the animation, the sound engineers and the rest. Having a movie that is almost 100 million isn't unusual. Then you have distribute it and publicize it. And if you are the financial arm putting this money at risk even if it won't bankrupt you you would still like to get a return on your investment. It's called running a business not a charity. And while the evil theme park may not seem wonderful to you. it's stock is part of several hundred mutual funds. It is considered a blue chip amongst traders. So all those 401ks, mutual funds, and others may have some evil empire in it. It's not just kids who love the mouse, the AARP loves the mouse also.
Look there is plenty of evil to go around with better foundations than you have used.

If you don't like it you can always write, produce, advertise , and distribute your own. Who knows you could have the next Blair Witch or something else. And you can always come and complain about hollywood. But it doesn't mean your reasons won't be taken to task. In this case it is a load of fail.

I don't know why the beekeeper is the bad guy we protect our bees and do everything in our power to insure thier surviveal.  Not to mention we're the ones responsable for thier spread throughout the world.  I guess Winnie The Pooh "AKA Hive Distoryer" wasn't avaliable for this movie. lol

Please watch the movie again and see who gets the tranq dart after the court decision.

Brendhan

Understudy,

I think you did not realize that I was being sarcastic in my last comments.  I thought it was clear enough but I guess not because you missed my point.

I waited until I watched it before I commented. I watched The Bee Movie with my 6 year old daughter.

I wasn't expecting anything factual or documentary like in quality, so, I was not disappointed. It is what I thought it would be, a children's movie filled with make believe and fantasy. YMMV

Wow this post has really turned into something! Thought I'd add a comment/question. How many times do you get "Oh you're a beekeeper, you should be ashamed of yourself!"

I never do, its usually something like, "Wow you're a beekeeper, how often do you get stung?"

And when some people learn that I remove bees and transfer them to beeyards I get, "Thank you for saving the bees."

Of course I also get, "Are you crazy or something, why would you save them?"

You see, we are not the bad guys, and a lot of the public believes that anything with a stinger is bad, and that's when we, "The good guys and girls" have a chance to educate on all HB's good splendor.
