help with new bees
« on: June 18, 2010, 12:49:59 pm »
I got a 3 pound package of bees on may the 13th and they are not doing good at all. They are about 30 miles away from me so I have only checked on them 2 times. I checked on them today and their are not many bees left and I could not find the queen. They only had 2 frames drawn out and they were not fully drawn out. My question is are they to far gone or should I get another queen and see if they will make it.       Thanks for any help

Mine started out that way.  The syrup can spilled out and killed most of them. They built up, but slowly starting out.

Assuming the queen was released properly, do you have brood? I would guess this is the clincher question about the viability of your hive.

If you have brood, then start feeding them syrup. Try to relieve feeding stress and get them to make some comb for more brood.

If not, your likely in trouble only having a single hive.

Did you have any brood/eggs or just the honey in the frames?  How many bees are left?   Is it less than the 3 pound package amount?
