Title: swarm #11 and 12 today
Post by: schawee on March 27, 2013, 11:10:49 pm
was in my back yard today watching my puppys play with the cats and heard a loud buzzing noise .the sky was full of bees,so I went to the garden and watched what turned out to be 2 swarms come in.well they landed in my orange tree about 3ft apart.i got in the swarm while they were landing and got one queen before the swarm finished landing in the tree.i went and got my queen catcher and caged her.when I got back I went to the second swarm and found the queen .that swarm was about 1  1/2 lbs and the other swarm was 3lbs.i videoed some with my I phone . hope it will work. well it says its to long .will post it on youtube then try it again.

That's awesome Schawee!

Why do I get the feeling I could do this for the next 30 years and still never understand how you guys can spot the queen like that!  Y'all truly amaze me.  :)

Maybe I'll get there one day...I'm just not seeing it. LOL!

I wish you LA guys would quit hogging all the bees.

I have seen feral hives down here, but never a swarm.

miss Annette, the swarm started to land on the branch when the queen came in .if you ever get a chance to watch a swarm land and go to them quick you have a good chance to get her before the rest of the swarm land.

Thanks Schawee for that bit of information. If I ever get the chance to see a swarm coming in, I will definitely try to locate the queen.
