2 hives started from packages on April 7, both mixed FLF and foundation.
First has fewer bees but is well organized. 3 8-frame boxes. They were making very nice comb, actually harvested 1 medium frame (1300ml), added 4th box.
Second has many more bees and activity and have 4 boxes for a little longer. But on last inspection the top box which I had pulled 2 brood frames up for a ladder, has developed thick comb on those 2 frames and narrow off-center (still straight but narrower) on both sides of those. the other 4 frames in top box had a very small amount of comb on each but not much ( 1-2" top attachment) They seem to have lots of brood, but eggs prove harder to see on the FLFs. Did not harvest any from this hive as there is brood in most of the frames. No all honey frames at least in top box.
Beginning to see nice, but not excessive drones in both hives.
Is the thin comb anything to worry about? or just keep an eye on it?
