Mowing around bees
«

What do most do when it comes time to mow? I have my bees in a place that will be mowed every week or at least every two weeks. It is about 25-30 ft. from my neighbors yard, where they too mow.
Any recomendations? Do most wear protection when mowing around bees?

I often mow right next to the hives being careful to blow the grass away from the opening and I just keep moving instead of lingering directly in front of the hive. I only got stung once by not observing the first reccomendation.
Most of the time they pay no attention to me.

Or it would be a good time to hire a neighbor kid to help with the mowing!

Planning your mowing so that the grass is blown away from the entrance is the best and quickest bet. If you're still concerned use grass sheers. I do not recommend a week wacker because they can damage the hive.

I use a weed trimmer, however, my hive is about 14 inches off of the ground. What about the distance away from the property line? They are facing away from the property line, and about 25 ft.

I use a weed wacker and trim right down to the ground out to about 10 feet in front of the hives.
