italians and russians. Interesting observation at this point: the italians come out readily and in large numbers at amazingly low temps, even when it snowing;  the russians lay low - no activity at all - until it's sunny and close to 50F. I have frequently worried that they were dead but they are healthy and numerous.

Carnolian packages imported from Australia last year, and a mystery hive with either italians or feral bees....both are very gentle.  I haven't had to suit up much, and can lie in front (to the side) of the hive and watch them.  I usually wear my veil and gloves because Im new to this but honestly don't need it unless I am swapping frames around.  So far I have been very pleased with the genetics.

Two years ago started with mutts from a removal, still around and doing good.  Last April three Russian packages, one absconded due to idiot human, two going good.  Last fall two hives inherited after buying extractor.  Was told they are Midnights, but not sure.  I just call them my brown bees.  Doing good last time I looked.  Three more Russian packages this year.
Everyone said it couldn't be done. But he with a chuckle replied, "I won't be one to say it is so, until I give it a try."  So he buckled right in with a trace of a grin.  If he had a worry he hid it and he started to sing as he tackled that thing that couldn't be done, and he did it.  (unknown)
