Top Entrance and not bottom entrance?
« on: January 03, 2012, 04:44:49 am »
Hi All

A couple of questions about top entrance hives.

If you ran a double deep (honey super on top) would you confine the queen to the bottom deep via the use of an excluder?

Thoughts anyone?

pros and cons...?

just seems like a lot of work for the bees to drag it though the hive to the top/ (sometime they get lazy and just dump it into the brood box)

I don't use an excluder and I do use top entrances only.  If you use an excluder you will need at least one 3/8" hole for the drones to get out of the brood nest.
