OOhh, it is beautiful!  Yes, I hope it catches lots of vermin!  We don't have many big type snakes around here, just little garter snakes, or at least I have never seen a big one & I'm always looking for something new!

that is a very nice looking snake.  I am making great efforts to become friends with the snakes and I actually like to hold them now. We have some beautiful looking snakes out here, although I don't know the names of them. We also have the dreaded rattlesnakes that appear every once in a while.

Sweet!  The only snakes I'm not fond of are Cottonmouth and their cousin the Copperhead.  Rattlers will let me know they're there if I give them a chance.  I grew up with no poisonous snakes where we lived so it was an experience for me not to get the willies when I came across a poisonous one.  Great picture!

I don't see much red to be a corn snake Iddee, perhaps its a female? These are the corns I'm familiar with: http://www.aaanimalcontrol.com/blog/redratsnake.html

Hey BF!
he/she is living in my pond now!.I put him in there right after I took the pics!
I let loose all the snakes I get, but usually about a half mile or so down the road, near the cemeterys. If I dont do that, believe it or not, they'll get back into the pigeon coup!

john

Beautiful snake! I get lots of both red and yellow rat snakes here. I generally just let them bee (they're great at getting rid of, not only rats/mice, but roaches as well). They are a pain in the hen house though, the big ones can eat 4-5 eggs at a sitting!
Peace be yours,
Scott

I caught a black rat snake last month and released it.
There is just absolutely no reason to kill a non-venomous snake.
None whatsoever.

And in most instances no reason to kill a poisonous one either.

I don't kill the venomous ones either.
I've caught and relocated the copperheads we have here.

I don't fear them but I have a healthy respect for the injury one can cause.

Just like with my bees. Enough stings can kill some people.
But we learn to handle, live with, and respect them.
As should be with all of natures creatures.

Oh John, what a beautiful snake, loved the picture of the opened mouth!!!  You said something about the dog getting bitten by the snake.  What happened?  I think I remember a post a fair time ago about one of your dogs that got bit by a snake and got very sick.  (Is my memory serving me right?  hope I am not fabricating things again, smiling).  Tell us the story.  I would love to hear, come on......have that wonderful and most awesome day, health.  Cindi
