What a great day. The temp was up to 54 degrees. T-shirt weather here in Vermont. 4 out 5 hives made it through the winter. All in various degrees of strength. The strongest hive is my one and only foam hive. Two of my hives that I thought would not make are still going strong. One hive is very weak and I do not have much hope for it right now. I am feeding sugar syrup and pollen patties but the three strongest hives are bringing in white pollen and some darker orange pollen. The white pollen is probably from bleep willows.
In a few days the soft maple trees should start to blossom and things will really take off then.
I put up my electric bear fence and that is a problem I will not have to worry about. I did have a problem with a red squirrel. Did you know they have a sweet tongue? This little fellow kept knocking my entrance feeders off and drinking the syrup. I fixed that by putting on top feeders. I was watching the little guy today going up a soft maple tree next to my bee yard and he was licking the sweet sap that was running down the tree.
that's it for now. I'm just excited as I can bee. sic

I don't know where the word bleep willows came from. Maybe I should have said just willows

Bleep comes from a "dirty" word that the forum software bleeps out. So when we talk about bleep willows, we have combined the words to make pussywillows!

I am in Vermont, also, (I'm further north than Archie, I think) but the day is wonderful here, too. Unfortunately, all three of my hives died over the winter. I don't really know why. :x
I'll be getting three nucs but not until the end of May. It really makes me sad to go outside to work around and realize that my bee hives are empty. I enjoy watching them so much. I envy all of you that have bees working right now.
