Had taken some video over the last spring and summer. Finally had the time to edit and upload them to YouTube. They range from cleansing flights, early spring feeding, queen cells, drones, eggs, bee sting therapy, a cut out from a fallen tree, pollen on bees and in cells, queen laying, dead mouse in hive, and another wheel bug on a hive. How are you holding the camera when you are holding frames with both hands?
I made a bracket that I fastened to an old hard hat so that the camera could be fastened to it and positioned in front of my right eye. Kind of a homemade "helmet cam". Takes a little getting used to. You'll see that when you see my attempt to video the marking of the queen. Was concentrating more on my open eye than the camera eye and got her just out of view cause I didn't want to screw up and hurt her.

That's pretty cool. How about a picture of it - preferably on your head so that we can mock you. Seriously I'd like to see it even if it's mostly duct tape and yard sticks.

They were wonderful, very educational. I really enjoyed the apitherapy ones. You can really see how to capture the bees and how to hold them when stinging yourself. Also loved the tree hive and the transfer. You make everything look so easy.
I saved this in my favorites and will show them to my 4H beekeeping class.

Don't have a picture of it right now. It's certainly not high tech. It's just a piece of metal I bought at Menard's bent to the shape of and bolted over the top to the hard hat. Left enough in the front to position the camera and enough in the back to fasten a counter weight to. For that I used a 12 oz. plastic bottle filled with water that I duct taped to the bracket (yes, Red Green would be proud).

So glad you enjoyed them. Quite the compliment to know you're going to use them in your 4H class. Hope they help you. Maybe some of the pics on the Photobucket link would be useful, too.

I watched the cutout videos and really enjoyed them. Your helmet cam seems to work great. I have one question and don't want it to take this thread off topic. Did the rubber bands last long enough for the bees to attach the comb to the frames?

Thanks. Yes, the bees begin immediately to attach the comb. The length of time the rubber bands last varies depending on the number of bees etc., but the comb are always well attached before the bands fail or I remove them (most of the time I don't have to). I have some old frames I usually use for this that have a couple of loose cross wires that help hold the comb in place.

I use a Panasonic GS 250 MiniDV. It has a macro setting on it, but I don't use it. It's just capable of focusing in real close. My older videos from 2 years ago were shot with the same camera, but were processed using the software that came with the camera. I now use Adobe Premiere Elements 4.0, and, as you can tell, the software can make a difference.
