june/july splits
« on: May 22, 2009, 11:13:56 pm »
i was reading an article in the latest american bee journal about varroa mite control. the author (can't remember his name) was making splits in june and early july to break the varroa breeding cycle. i get his main points but it was still a little over my head. i was wondering if anyone else had read this article and what your thoughts on it might be.tia.
when you're dumb, ya gotta be tough.

i will be making splits this july out of self defense for swarm prevention.
they do fine here where we have a good fall flow.
and it will break the brood cycle if properly done.
gotta put the old queen in a smaller split with no brood or eggs, the old hive makes a queen and has a brood break, the old queen in the split has no capped brood to breed varroa.
both have a break in brood and the resulting is mite pressure.

most often i find my greatest source of stress to be OPS  ( other peoples stupidity )

It is better to keep ones mouth shut and be thought of as a fool than to open ones mouth and in so doing remove all doubt.
