outside slide show
« on: August 21, 2008, 02:43:18 pm »
The market manager and extension specialist inspected the farms of the produce growers that sell at our farmers market(yes, one of them is mine). She took pictures at these farms to help her remember what she saw where. We are trying to keep vendors from being resellers of produce. She made a slide show and we were talking yesterday about how the market customers would love to see where the produce for sale comes from and how nice it would be to show the slide show at the market. But we're not sure how to do this since it is outside and the glare on computer monitors makes it hard to see anything. any suggestions? maybe some kind of viewing booth? the ideal would be the slide show projected onto a screen. think very limited budget.

Do you have access to an LCD projector? How about a tent?

Well, without an LCD projector I just don't know of any way to project the image onto a screen, or anything else for that matter. I guess you could have the photos developed as slides and use a slide projector, but that would be about it.

How about a big television? Do you have one onsite, or someone who'd be willing to let you take theirs out there and set it up? TV screens show up much better in sunlight than computer screens or projected images anyway. You can buy a little gizmo and cable to convert the computer's video output to a television-compatible signal for about $50.

similar to that we could just burn the slide show onto a cd or dvd and then show it on a tv with a dvd player.
there is still a lot of glare with a tv outside. looks like some kind of viewing booth would work best.

Not sure how keen I'd be on stepping into a tent to watch a slide show at a farmer's market. Too many people, takes too long, may be hot, can't see or hear well, etc. I think I'd be more attracted to a photo display with short captions and maybe a pamphlet to pick up (all doable and inexpensive with photo print paper & simple desktop publishing software). Maybe even have the same photo on display at the farm's booth that is in the main display to visually match them up. The slide show already created is not lost, just repurposed. IMO, I rather like the low-tech atmosphere at farmers' markets.
