So..CCD...this year, yes or no?
« on: February 14, 2008, 11:17:09 pm »
I was talking to a buddy of mine today, a big guy- migratory. He says that the loss is big this year, same as last year. Why do I feel like it is not happening on the scale as last year? I just have not seen/heard much going on this year (07/08).  Are the big guys just not bothering to talk much on the boards right now ont this subject?  Perhaps I have just missed the threads?  What is the general feeling on CCD, as it relates to dead outs so far?
Thanks!

No, CCD made big news in my paper about a month ago. This is still a big issue among commerical beekeepers.

Sincerely,
Brendhan

FYI Siskiyou is Chinook Jargon for Bob Tailed Horse.  The Chinook Indians used to go south of the Mountain Range that seperates Oregon from California to steal Horses from the Californio's (Mexicans).  On the way back they were led back through the Mountain passes tied head to tail single file.  The horses would eat the tail off the horse in front of it--hence the term Siskiyou meaning such a horse.  The raids were usually made during the winter so there was little, if any, grass to eat as the tribes were too busy catching salmon etc during the summer to go a stealing.  During the winter they would otherwise just lie around with nothing to do.
