Golden Rod Pollen only or nectar source?
« on: July 31, 2009, 04:34:42 pm »
2 of the older beekeepers in my area insist that bees only gather pollen from golden rod, that it is not a nectar source. I hate to argue with these guys ( one of them helped me get started with bees 6 years ago). I know my hives always cap a few supers of honey in August when golden rod is flowering. Has anyone heard of this or can prove or disprove this so that I can set them straight in a nice way? Or am I the one that is wrong?

Different types of golden rod in different area. For me not a source, for other parts of country huge source. There is a post running now on goldenrod honey. Check it out. Love that smell --- "can't you smell that smell" :-D!
