Hello from "Green Country" Oklahoma

Hello, we are new to beekeeping and enjoying this site a lot.  Our 11 yr old son approached us a couple of months ago about keeping bees.  He has been so excited.  I can't remember a time he read so much without being forced to. :lol:  We are getting ready for our bees and they should be here in May.  We are starting with two hives.  One established and one a new start. 

We are in the country on 5 acres with lots of fields in the area.  I am very hopeful that we have a great area to keep bees in.  I was walking around our land yesterday looking at all the "bee food" that is in bloom...funny how your prospective can change so fast. :-D 

We just got back from our state meeting and a local meeting (in the same week).  We are learning a lot and making some contacts if we run into problems and need help.

Thanks to everyone who posts here.  It is a big help and encouragement to those of us who are just starting out.

welcome  - I know all about seeing flowers in a different light. My only question - ever - about flowers was: "Does it turn into something you can eat?" (no) "I don't care."
Bees turn ornamentals into honey, so now I gotta learn a bunch of stuff...

Jmdowd, welcome to our forum, it is wonderful that you found us.  Imagine that, the child of yours is so interested in beekeeping, the reading has began for him, that is just wonderful.  Another family of beekeepers.  Yes, your mind will change about your views towards many things when it comes to bees -- that will pertain to health as well as wanting to keep even more flowers, grow food that the bees help to pollinate, and that goes on and on.  Soon you will be so surprised to understand how deeply you will be held beneath their spell, we all are.  They lovelies of the beautiful skies above, and they are that most wonderful piece of work.  Enjoy, I know you will.
